“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
Henry Ford
Gone on FIRE is a personal finance website created to track my journey to financial independence with the intention of inspiring, encouraging, and motivating those individuals who join the journey with me.
I want to prove that an average guy like me can retire early and retire wealthy. That you don’t have to work until your body is falling apart and your kids are gone.
Be Gone from the office and be free to go wherever you are led to go.
Together we will learn and grow and in the end be able to give freely of our time, money, and knowledge.
Who?
You can call me GoneOnFIRE Guy. I’m an engineer with your normal nine-to-five job. I started my professional career as an intern in late 2010 as the economy pulled out of the great recession and layoffs were still happening within my company at the time.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy playing guitar, spending time with my family, and being active with my church community. My wife is a full-time physical therapist, and we currently have two amazing kids.
Back when this blog was started, I was 33 years old, and my wife was 30.
Aside from planning to be able to retire early, I believe we represent your typical upper-middle class family.
What?
Gone On FIRE is my chronicle to financial independence.
I’ll lay out my goals and my plans as well as provide monthly/quarterly updates on my finances along with my passive income. New material will be posted when I’m not busy trying to make money to retire early.
When?
My goal is to be financially independent by the time I’m 45.
This blog was started on Labor Day, September 2, 2019. On that day, I was 33.
That means retired by the end of the year 2030. I’m sure my (by then) teenage kids will love that.
Where?
We currently live in Texas. We’ve been here since 2017 and, so far, love it, aside from the property taxes. Who knows where we’ll be in the future? We’re not particularly tied down to any one place, but it is nice to be close to family.
Why?
Why read GoneOnFIRE?
Because I’m your average guy. If I can achieve FIRE, so can you! I have never received any financial windfall, and I work hard to make what you see in those net worth reports.
How?
I plan to achieve financial independence by investing the money I earn in various vehicles and by following biblical principles. That means I don’t plan on using debt. It also means I view the money I have as God’s money, and I get to be the temporary boss of it.
